Wildfire activity increasing statewide under current weather pattern

The weather pattern for the upcoming week will be hot and dry due to an upper level ridge of high pressure positioned over the state, according to theT exas A&M Forest Service. This pattern is similar to what was observed July 9-17, when wildfire activity increased across much of the state.

Information needed on truck burglary

Perryton-Ochiltree County Crime Stoppers needs information this week to solve a recent vehicle burglary. On Aug. 2, it was reported to the police department that a pickup in the 1600 block of South Jefferson street was burglarized.

Sales tax holiday is this weekend

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar reminds shoppers the annual sales tax holiday for certain clothing items, footwear, backpacks and school supplies is scheduled for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-9.

This has been our very first summer to ever plant a garden. Boy, does Perry have a green thumb. When we first planted I made jokes about “what” he had chosen to plant.

MUSEUM DEBUTS NEW DUGOUT EXHIBIT

One of the new exhibits at the Museum of the Plains is a model of a dugout dwelling. Dugouts were used as ranch buildings, line shacks, and temporary dwellings up until the 1920s and 1930s in Ochiltree County. The museum’s dugout required the work of 8-10 volunteers to build.
