PISD announces reopening plans

The Perryton ISD has released its reopening plans for school this August. As with most things these days, the plan or parts of it are subject to change, based on guidelines from local, state and federal authorities. The district will have two options for families to select for their children.

County Judge Charles Kelly, left, officially swore in new Justice of the Peace Garry Smith on June 30. His first official day was July 1. Smith was appointed to the office June 8 by the Ochiltree County Commissioners Court, after JP Braden Karber decided to retire after 30 years in the position.

Pickup stolen, recovered

A stolen vehicle topped local law enforecemtn activity for the week. Gonzalo Mandujano, 518 NW First, reported a pickup had been stolen from the residence, and a gun was also taken from another vehicle. The pickup was later recovered in Liberal, KS. Annette Martinez, 126 N.

A reception was held on Monday afternoon at the Museum of the Plains for Ochiltree County Justice of the Peace Braden Karber, who retired on Tuesday after 30 years in office. Many residents turned out to congratulate and honor Karber, including county officials, peace officers, friends, and family.

Area businesses set closings for July 4 holiday

Area businesses, government offices, and organizations have announced their closings for Independence Day this year. Since the holiday falls on a Saturday this year, many businesses that are normally closed on the weekends will be letting employees off on Friday also.
