This has been our very first summer to ever plant a garden. Boy, does Perry have a green thumb. When we first planted I made jokes about “what” he had chosen to plant. Tons of tomato plants – because he loves tomatoes, lots of peppers and black-eyed peas – because he loves them, only two watermelon plants – because I love watermelon and he hates it, and a few cucumber plants – because I love them and he absolutely can’t stand them.

Is it just me, or do you detect a bit of foul play here? Either he did this on purpose, or he knew exactly what he was doing, but, we have cucumbers out the wahzoo, and the one surviving watermelon plant has taken over the entire field. Just gotta love karma.

It must be a good year for cucumbers. This week Janet Tregellas and Debbie Logan brought us lots of fresh goodies. They were so good, and immediately put to good use. I think by the time I was able to eat lunch, there were about three slices left. An empty bowl is always a good sign around here. From all of our members we thank you.

Larry Money won the pot in the 50/50 game..again. Seriously, just because his last name is Money he wins the money? Price Money is his son, so I’m thinking, with a name like that, he could give his old man a run for the $$$. We are changing the rules back this month to “must be present to win”. It sure is a lot more fun for us all when we can witness the happy winner’s excitement.

You don’t have to be a member to win, anyone can enter the drawing. Join us for lunch any M-W-F, buy a ticket or 20, come back again cuz the food was so delish, buy more tickets, and then be sure and join us the last Friday of each month to see if your name gets called out. The next drawing will be on Aug. 28.

We still have our carry out service available. Pull up to the door, and it will be delivered to you without ever leaving your car. $10 for members, and $12 for nonmembers. Call me M-W-F at 435-9909 to order your meal. Please call before 10:30 a.m. There have been several times we have run out of food. So if you call closer to serving time, Nancy forces me to send you elsewhere for lunch. Your order will be ready at 11:30 a.m. for pick up.

Don’t forget your school supplies. Not for you silly, for the school age children. Ruth Roberson is always Johnny on the Spot getting hers to me right off the bat. She must have been the kid who always had the coolest backpack because she got first pick. She included a bottle of hand sanitizer in her sack of supplies. Good thinking Ruth. She has always included her grand kids in the yearly ritual, but thanks to #$&^*@ (not going to mention it today), they were unable to get together.

So Ruth, Lizzy and I will fill in for you this year. She and I will pick up the slack, and continue with your tradition every year from now on buying school supplies for the families needing an extra boost to begin the school year. Another great idea. Lizzy girl get your shoes on, Gal is coming to get ya. We are going shopping.
