Janice Payne McLain took some convincing to stay in the Texas Panhandle. Thanks to the smooth talking and charm of her husband, Randy, she stayed beyond her better judgement. Janice was accustomed to the trees and creeks of central Oklahoma and not the flat, dry Panhandle.

Another gun stolen from vehicle

Another stolen gun, a case of identity theft and a shoplifter topped activity for the week. David Borunda reported a pistol stolen from his pickup parked at The Reserve Apartments, 2401 Jefferson. The gun is a Smith & Wesson M&P .380 pistol, black with a gold barrel.

PARADE CHAMP – NON-CLASSIC AUTO

Saturday morning’s Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration parade attracted thousands of county residents to main street to enjoy the show. The winner of the Non-Classic Auto category was Jim’s Flock of Birds.

22nd Wheatheart Rodeo awards over $27,000 in prize money

The 22nd annual Wheatheart Rodeo was held Aug. 14-15 at the rodeo grounds, with a total of $27,067.97 in prize money awarded. Competitors came from Oklahoma, Nebraska, Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Alabama, Colorado and Texas to participate in the event.

Perryton’s Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration parade brought thousands of viewers out to enjoy the show. The winner of the non-profit division of parade entries was the float for Ochiltree County 4-H.

BALLOT DRAWING FOR J-P CANDIDATES

The candidates for Ochiltree County’s Justice of the Peace election met on Tuesday afternoon at the Ochiltree County Courthouse to draw for ballot position for the election. Darlena Hardy will be in first position on the ballot, with Keith Dutcher second, and Wm. “Bucky” Goldsberry third.
