Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus has announced plans to build a new facility for their cosmetology program.
According to Amber Jones, dean of the Allen Campus, the Kent Kwik building across the street from the main campus will be renovated to serve as the new facility.
Jones said she expects construction to begin soon and to be completed in time for new classes in the spring. She said the project has been in the works for over a year.
The renovation project should cost slightly more than $100,000 to complete.
Jones said the Perryton Community Development Corporation (PCDC) donated $50,000 worth of equipment for the project. The CDC will also cover a portion of instructor pay for the next three years. The CDC will pay 75% of instructor pay for the first year, 50% for the second year, and 25% for the third year.
Jones said there should be room for about 20 students in the facility.
The new facility will have office space for instructors, as well as classroom and lab space. There will be five hair washing stations and 20 hair stations, as well as stations for facials, manicures, and pedicures.
The college expects to employ one instructor for every 20 students.
The facility will be open to the public, and cosmetology services will be offered sometime next summer, after students have had at least one semester of instruction.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Allen Campus.
