Jim A. Clark passed away peacefully at his home in Perryton on April 9, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his brothers Flynn, Glynn, Charles, Bill, Homer and Gary Clark, sister Ollie Waits, and daughter Renee Holland.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Penny; sister, Paula Hachett; son, Jimmy Ron (Kim) Clark; stepson, Tommy Clark (Sherri); grandchildren, Adam (Traci) Holland, Joshua (Renee) Holland, Jesse (Natalie) Clark, Hannah (Evan) Clark; and greatgrandchildren, Sara Holland, Haden and Heaven Holland, and Helena Clark. Jim also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and other loving family members.

Jim was born October 16, 1932, in Burbank/Hominy, Oklahoma to Richard Eliace and Charlie Lillian Clark. Jim understood the value of a hard day’s work and satisfaction of a job well-done from a young age. He shared the labor of his family’s farm, worked at a Hominy grocery store, and was nine years old when he began servicing vehicles at his brother’s station.

Jim was drafted into the Army in 1953 and served dutifully in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge in 1955, Jim went to work for Dowell Oil Company in Hominy. His position with Dowell brought him to Perryton in 1958 and three years later, Jim bought a Shamrock Service Station.

He operated “Clark’s Shamrock” until 1973, when he pursued an opportunity to purchase a tire service owned by Slim Hash. Jim’s Tire Service was known for friendly, honest, and quality service and it became a fixture in Perryton’s community and surrounding area until Jim retired in 2015.

Jim sponsored and coached Perryton women’s softball teams from 1979 to 2000 and was a dedicated fan of Oklahoma University sports. He held a profound appreciation for Ford vehicles, especially Thunderbirds, that was apparent in the way he kept them clean and well-maintained. Jim enjoyed the affection of his numerous toy poodles throughout his adult life.

He also loved country music, especially songs performed by Connie Smith. Jim’s admiration for Connie’s talent led him to attend 215 of her concerts in the past 33 years. One of Jim and Penny’s first dates took place at Connie’s 1990 concert in Great Bend, Kansas. The couple eventually developed a friendship with Connie and her husband, Marty Stuart.

Jim and Penny married August 10, 1991. They shared adventures in Vienna, Greece, Rome, Jamaica, and Costa Rica, but also enjoyed visiting close friends near Jacksonville, Florida and family in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Jim and Penny built a rich and fulfilling life together and his love for her knew no end. He will be remembered for his strong embrace, charming personality, and cheerful disposition.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, April 12 at New Hope Fellowship. Perryton.
