Randy Anderson of Lubbock was the first speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. He spoke on “6 Determiners of Success in Life” at the Frank Phillips College Allen Campus on Thursday evening. The seminar was sponsored by Courson Gas Consultants.

United Way launches 2021 campaign

The Ochiltree United Way launched its 2021 fundraising campaign last week, and already has raised 32% of its goal. Due to COVID-19, a formal kick off was not held this year, and almost all of the pledge cards will be mailed instead of hand delivered.

Rangers notch 14-0 win on Friday

The Perryton Rangers picked up their first win of the season on Friday night, taking a 14-0 victory over the Alpine Fighting Bucks in Sundown. It was a defensive battle most of the evening, and the Rangers shut down Alpine.

Early voting opens Tuesday for Nov. 3 election

Early voting begins this Tuesday, Oct. 13 for the Nov. 3 general election. The early voting period has been extended to three weeks this year, and runs through Oct. 30. A valid photo ID is required to cast a ballot. Early voting will be conducted at the meeting room of Perry Memorial Library.

City’s sales tax payment down 30%

The City of Perryton’s sales tax payment for October took another hit. The city received $192,064, which is almost 30% less than October 2019. For the year, it has received around $2.2 million, a drop of 16% from 2019. Around the area, all but one city also saw a drop in revenue.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held across the street from Frank Phillips College Allen Campus on Wednesday afternoon for the college’s new facility for the cosmetology program. The renovation of the Kent Kwik building for the program should be completed in time for new classes in the spring.

IRS extends EIP deadline to Nov. 21

The Internal Revenue Service announced Oct. 5 that the deadline to register for an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) is now Nov. 21, 2020. This new date will provide an additional five weeks beyond the original deadline.

Versatile Vincent

While actor Vincent Price is best known as a star in horror movies, he was also an expert and collector of fine art, donating 90 pieces from his private collection to establish the Vincent Price Art Museum in Monterey Park, California. He was also a gourmet cook and authored a number of cookbooks.
