Ochiltree County 4-H held their annual awards ceremony Monday night at the Expo Center. Recognized for their willingness to help other 4-H members, the winners of the Helping Hand awards were, from left, Shepherd Miller and Chloe Tanner.

Drilling permits down in September

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 437 original drilling permits in September 2020 compared to 796 in September 2019. The September 2020 total includes 371 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, two to re-enter plugged well bores, and 41 for re-completions of existing well bores.

An unclaimed bull was found roaming around FM 759 between County Road 11 and Highway 70 last week. The black bull, weighing about 1,800-2,000 pounds, has a limp on his right front leg. He is branded, but the brand is not clearly legible. If you can identify this animal, contact J.W.

Ranger CC outruns tougher competition

The second-place state ranked Ranger cross country team ran in the Canyon Invitational III on Saturday. It was the Rangers third time to run on the Canyon course, which is where the district meet will be held. Despite there being a race for 3A-4A schools, the Rangers were placed in the 5A-6A race.

American Legion sets meeting date The American Legion Post #254 will meet on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizen Center. There will not be a meal at the meeting. FPC to start Finishers group Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus is starting a new program called FPC Finishers on Nov.

Snack Pak 4 Kids hosted its second annual Supermarket Sweep fundraiser Thursday evening at United Supermarket. Tickets had been sold the prior weeks for $2 each, and the organization raised about $1,500. Of the tickets sold, two were drawn at random to compete in the Sweep.

Rangers to host Seminole Friday

The Rangers will host Seminole this Friday night in their third district match up. Game time is 7 p.m. The night will also be homecoming and senior night for Perryton. The Indians and the Rangers both come into the contest with 1-1 district records.

Seliger holds digital town hall meeting

Texas State Senator Kel Seliger (R-Dist. 31) held an online town hall for Ochiltree County on Friday afternoon. The meeting, held through the Zoom app, was sparsely attended, drawing only about six attendees, and wrapped up shortly past the 17-minute mark.

Early voting ends Friday in Nov. 3 election

Voters have through this Friday, Oct. 30, to cast an early ballot in the Nov. 3 general election. This year, early voting is conducted in the meeting room of Perry Memorial Library. Voters should use the entrance off Ash Street, just south of the main library entrance.

Commissioners approve new cemetery rules

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court changed some cemetery rules at its meeting on Monday morning at the County Courthouse. The commissioners approved new rules of operation for the Ochiltree County Cemetery.
