A new statue of Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security, was unveiled Thursday evening at the Museum of the Plains. John Erickson, author of the best-selling children’s book series, was on hand for the unveiling, along with his wife Kris.

COVID-19 cases fall in county, but not by much

Ochiltree County’s COVID-19 cases are continuing to slide, but not by much and not very quickly. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s total COVID-19 cases now stand at 361, unchanged from Tuesday afternoon.

City’s sales tax payment takes another big drop

The City of Perryton did not fare as well as area cities in the latest sales tax revenue allocations for November. The city’s payment of $250,230 was 21% lower than November 2019. For the year, its payments of $2.45 million are around 16.5% less than in 2019.

United Way drive has reached 74%

The Ochiltree United Way continued to close in on its $90,000 goal for the 2021 campaign at the end of last week. The drive has now raised $66,887, which is 74% of the goal. All of the six divisions also added to their totals.

Rangers win bi-district title

The Perryton Rangers notched a decisive victory and claimed the bi-district title with a convincing 34-20 win over the Monahans Loboes Friday night at Ranger Field. The Rangers advance to the area round, and will face the Graham Steers next Friday night. That game will be in Frenship at 7 p.m.

PHS Counselor’s Honor Roll

Perryton High School has named the students making the counselorÕs honor roll for the first nine weeks of school. To be eligible for the honor roll, students must have an average between 84.5 and 89.4.

Quiet week for crime

A stolen sign and a disturbance in an alley were among the few crimes reported to police during the week. Police received a call about a person screaming in the alley in the 800 block between Fordham and Grinnell. Officers arrived on the scene, and drugs were allegedly found on the suspect.
