Commissioners to accept proposals for concessionaire

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met for their first meeting of 2021 on Monday at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved a plan to accept proposals for a new concessionaire at Lake Fryer and Wolf Creek Park.

Even though the United/United Way Jacky Pierce Charity Classic golf tournament was not held last year, United Supermarkets, LLC and vendor partners still raised $500,000 for 28 United Way chapters across its areas of operation.

Chocolate is a popular gift on Valentine’s Day. According to the Nielsen Company, Valentine’s Day is the third busiest holiday for chocolate sales, following Halloween and Easter. More than 70 million pounds of chocolate are purchased each year and offered as Valentine’s Day gifts.

Rifle Club to hold Steel Challenge Match The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its monthly Steel Challenge Match on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at the indoor range south of the Ochiltree County Expo Building.

COVID-19 cases fall in county

The numbers of active COVID-19 cases in Ochiltree County fell this week. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 stand at 84, up from 112 on Tuesday afternoon.

COVID-19 continued to be at the forefront of news in the second half of 2020, but gradually residents learned to cope with the “new normal.” The second half of the year kicked off with a public open house for the brand new Ochiltree County Law Enforcement Center.

United Way drive just shy of goal

With the latest contributions, the Ochiltree United Way 2021 fund drive is now a little less than $2,200 shy of its $90,000 goal. So far, the drive has now raised $87,869, which is 98% of the goal. Two divisions also increased their individual totals.
