Steve Gilliland of Mocksville, NC was the latest speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. He spoke on “Emerge” at the Frank Phillips College Allen Campus on Thursday evening. The seminar was sponsored by First National Bank and Western Industrial Supply.

School board election draws fourth candidate

The Perryton School Board election is now a race, with one more candidate filing Thursday. Incumbent Wes Beal will seek another term on the school board. Three other candidates have previously filed for one of three positions up on the board: incumbent Tyler Merkel, Chris Lingo and Gus Hernandez.

City’s February sales tax payment marks 12% decrease

The City of Perryton saw another decline in its monthly sales tax revenues in February. The sales tax payment for the month was $273,625, a drop of around 12% from February 2020. For the year to date, the city has received $442,060 in the first two months of the year, a decrease of 11% from 2020.

Active COVID-19 cases up

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Ochiltree County has risen slightly. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 stand at 34, up from 32 cases Tuesday afternoon.

Ochiltree United Way’s board celebrated topping its 2021 fundraising goal last week. United Way has exceeded their goal of $90,000 by almost $4,000.

Residential burglaries, theft are investigated

More burglaries were investigated by local law enforcement during the week. Shawn Morgan, 209 SE Catalina, reported a burglary at his residence and vehicle. Stolen from the residence were a television, Roku, security camera, collectible coins and Dewalt tools. Speaker were taken from his vehicle.
