City council suspends latest electric rate increase request

The Perryton City Council approved one Xcel Energy rate surcharge and suspended another proposed rate increase by the electric company, during a short meeting Tuesday. City Manager David Landis explained the proposed Xcel surcharge resolution to the council.

School board race only election May 1

The Perryton School Board will be the only entity holding an election on May 1, after the filing period closed last Friday. There are four candidates seeking three positions on the school board. They are incumbents Tyler Merkel and Wes Beal, along with Chris Lingo and Gus Hernandez.

The Rangerette basketball team captured the bi-district championship last Friday with a convincing 41-34 win over the Lubbock Estacado Lady Matadors. They lost to state ranked Seminole, 71-42, in the area round of the playoffs Tuesday.

Soil fertility, plant nutrient management series set in Spearman

Producers in the Hansford County area will have a unique opportunity to attend a limited-seating Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrient Management Hands-On Lab Series hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service on Feb. 16, March 2 and March 4. The meetings will be from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Feb.

January drilling permits down over 50% in Texas

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 512 original drilling permits in January 2021 compared to 1,156 in January 2020. The January 2021 total includes 446 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, two to re-enter plugged well bores, and six for re-completions of existing well bores.
