Elks scholarships applications available

Applications for the Perryton Elks #2368 scholarship can be picked up Monday through Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at 4 SW 9th Street. The deadline to return applications is May 21.

Rifle and Pistol Club sets monthly meeting

The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 1, at 7 p.m. at the indoor range south of the Ochiltree County Expo Center. The club will be discussing new and ongoing projects. All are welcome — new memberships and renewals will be available.

Balko Lions set auction

The Balko Lions Club will hold their 46th annual consignment auction on Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. just east of the Balko School. Consignments will be taken through Friday, April 23, but the deadline to get on the sale bill is Monday, April 5.

COVID-19 cases in Texas drop slightly

The number of new COVID-19 cases in Texas dropped to 27,185 last week, with 741 deaths reported. Both are down just slightly from the previous week, according to the Coronavirus Center at Johns Hopkins University.

On March 31, 2021, the Ochiltree County Sheriff’s Department had outstanding warrants on the following people: Marcus Camarillo, no personal information was available. Last known address was Perryton. There is one misdemeanor warrant for Camarillo for issuance of bad checks.

Don Schollenbarger has had a huge impact on Perryton. His roots run extremely deep here and go back for generations. Schollenbarger chose a career in which he was gifted. Numerous Perryton High School graduates over a 27-year span owe him a debt of gratitude for making them more intelligent.

Forest service acquires acreage through forest legacy grant

The Texas A&M Forest Service has acquired Fox Hunters Hill, a $1.6 million conservation easement of sustainably managed forest adjacent to the Sabine National Forest in Deep East Texas. The acreage was acquired through the U.S.

PJH robotics team brings home trophies

The Perryton Junior High School robotics team, the Wizards of Technology, was named the overall Grand Champion Team at the annual Mid-American Air Museum Kansas-Southwest Regional First Lego League competition last Saturday.

Vandalism is reported

It was another quiet week for criminal activity, with very few offenses reported. A local man was arrested on misdemeanor offenses of evading arrest or detention on foot, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after fleeing from deputies.
