Texas Wheat Board election underway

The Texas Wheat Producers Board biennial election to fill five expiring positions is underway and will conclude on April 6, 2021.

The Breathalyzer

Modern breathalyzers work on a clever electrochemical principle. The subject’s breath is passed over a platinum electrode, which causes the alcohol to bind with oxygen, forming acetic acid. In the process, it loses two electrons, a process that sets up a current in a wire connected to the electrode.

City to hold lifeguard classes

The City of Perryton will offer lifeguard classes on April 21-25 and May 12-16 at 5 p.m., each day at the Perryton Activity Center. Assistance will be available for anyone needing help with any water skills prior to the class. Call City Hall at 435-4014 for more information.

Golf shamble planned

The Perryton Golf Club will hold a Thursday night shamble on Thursday, April 15, beginning with a 6 p.m. shotgun start. Entry fee is $10.

Certification training set for applicators

All area pesticide applicators are invited to a certification training for synthetic auxins on Wednesday, April 7, at 10 a.m. at the Ochiltree County Expo Center.

NRCS, OSWCD plan working group meeting

The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in Ochiltree County and the Ochiltree Soil and Water Conservation District invite the public to attend their FY22 Local Working Group (LWG) meeting on Thursday, April 8, at 9:30 a.m. at the Museum of the Plains, 1200 N. Main.

Library storm shelter open for emergencies

The storm shelter at Perry Memorial Library is again open in case of tornados. Due to the large number of people who come to the shelter, the library is requiring that everyone 10 or older must be wearing a mask when they enter the shelter. No masks will be given — you must bring your own.

Pistol Club sets silhouette match

The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its monthly Silhouette Indoor Match on Sunday, April 18, at 1 p.m. at the Chuck Waller Range at Lake Fryer. Competitors will fire at metal silhouettes of chickens, pigs, turkeys, and rams at 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters.

American Legion to meet April 5

The Harry P. Stumpf American Legion Post 254 will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, April 5, at the Senior Citizen Center. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend.
