County corrections officers save inmate after heart attack

Two corrections officers at the Ochiltree County Jail helped save the life of an inmate having a heart attack last month. In fact, it was the second that incident has happened to both officers and the inmate.

Tuition program open enrollment underway

Open enrollment in the state’s Texas Tuition Promise Fund began Sept. 1 and runs through the end of February. The plan allows parents and others to lock in today’s tuition and fees at state public colleges and universities.

Burglaries reported

Several cases of stolen property were investigated by police during the week. Luis Gonzales reported passenger ramps had been stolen from his semi-truck while it was parked at Waterhole 83. They were valued at $3,000. Vanelly Gonzalez, 106 S. Cedar, reported a burglary at her residence.

The Ranger Roundup Learning Center received great news this week, that it had been awarded a $74,529 grant from the Texas Workforce Commission through the Child Care Development Block Grant.

County commissioners set tax rate

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday, Sept. 13, at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. Despite a lengthy agenda for the morning’s meeting, the items to adopt a budget and property tax rate for 2021-22 attracted the most interest.
