The Friendship Quilt Guild presented 19 Quilts of Valor to local and are veterans in a special ceremony Sept. 9 at Community Worship Center. The first nine will be highlighted in this issue, with the remaining 10 to be featured in an upcoming Herald.

LaMunyon accepted to SWOSU pharmacy school

Logan LaMunyon of Perryton, TX has been accepted into the Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy at Weatherford. Forty-one students were admitted into the Doctor of Pharmacy program for the 2021 fall semester.

According to the ASPCA, the number of dogs and cats euthanized in United States animal shelters has declined significantly since 2011. The ASPCA reports that approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year.

Crime Stoppers of Perryton is offering a special $1,000 reward for a tip that leads to an arrest and/or an indictment of the persons responsible for vandalism of restrooms in Leatherman and Whigham Parks in July.

Wolf Creek Chapter DAR celebrates Constitution Week Sept. 17-23

At the request of the Wolf Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Perryton Mayor Kerry Symons signed a proclamation designating the week of Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week. This Constitution week marks the 234th anniversary of the signing of that document.

Active COVID-19 cases in county are up slightly

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Ochil-tree County have risen slightly in the latter half of this week. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 have risen to 36, up from 34 on Tuesday afternoon.

CORRECTIONS OFFICERS COMMENDED FOR SAVING LIFE—Two corrections officers at the Ochiltree County Jail have received commendations after helping save the life of an inmate last month. The officers responded to an inmate having a heart attack at the jail on Aug. 31.
