What taxpayers need to know about 2022 estimated tax payments

By law, everyone must pay tax as they earn income. Generally taxpayers must pay at least 90 percent of their taxes throughout the year through withholding, estimated or additional tax payments or a combination of the two. If they don’t, they may owe an estimated tax penalty when they file.

State reports increase in local COVID-19 cases

The State of Texas’ COVID-19 numbers for Ochiltree County jumped sharply late this week. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the county has had 14 new cases of the virus in the last 14 days.

Preliminary autopsy released on jail inmate

A preliminary autopsy report has been released for an inmate who died in the Ochiltree County Jail in May. Billy Joe Spann, age 50, died while incarcerated at the jail on May 19.

Prescribed fire grants applications for Texas Plains region now open

Texas A&M Forest Service is now accepting grant applications for the State Fire Assistance for Mitigation – Plains Prescribed Fire Grant through Aug. 15, 2022. Prescribed fire is the planned application of a low-intensity fire to the landscape by fire and fuel specialists.

Meramec Caverns is the largest commercial cave in the state of Missouri. Known as the “Cave State,” Missouri is home to more than 6,000 surveyed caves. Over the centuries, local tribes of Indians used the caverns as shelter.

Coffee Memorial offering incentives to blood donors in June

With low donor turnout so far this summer, Coffee Memorial Blood Center is offering blood donors an extra incentive on Fridays and Saturdays this month. With school out of session and summer vacations, the donor turnout continues to decrease.
