Lingo, Ceniceros named May Students of Month

The Perryton Rotary Club Students of the Month for May are Perryton High School seniors Adrian Ceniceros and Hallie Lingo. Ceniceros attended the Rotary Club meeting on May 19. Lingo couldn’t attend because she was with the PHS choir at Disney World.

EXTREME DODGEBALL—Perryton Junior High School hosted a dodgeball tournament in Raider Gymnasium on last Friday afternoon. Almost 80 students participated in the tourney, with the rest of the school cheering loudly from the bleachers.

County hires new deputy

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. The commissioners approved the hiring of a new deputy for the sheriff’s department. The new deputy, Tim Olivarez, is from Perryton and will be the fourth deputy working for the department.

PHS graduation Saturday

Perryton High School’s Class of 2022 commencement will be held on Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. on Ranger Field. The graduates will be seated on the field and will face the home stands. Entrances for families and other guests will be through the east and west ticket gates.

Light turnout for runoff

Voters across the state went to the polls Tuesday to decide the candidates for the November general election. Voting was light in Ochiltree County, with only a total of 289 votes cast. That included 282 in the Republican primary and 7 in the Democratic primary.

Hospital board discusses scribe program for OGH

The Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors met on Monday evening at the conference center in Ochiltree General Hospital. Board members discussed a proposed program for the hospital for a scribe program to be administered by Voice Products of Wichita, KS.

Issac Gabriel and Veronica Ontiveros were crowned Mr. and Miss PHS on Monday morning during the annual Senior Skip Day festivities at the Museum of the Plains.

Storms bring more rain

A strong thunderstorm on Monday evening poured plenty of rain on county residents, with lighter rain on Tuesday night topping up area rain gauges. KEYE Radio’s official rainfall total for the past couple days was 1.44 inches.
