School district to seek lower tax rate, budget

In a special meeting Monday evening, the Perryton School Board decided on lower proposed tax rates, around 13 cents total, and a proposed budget for 2022-23. Chief Financial Officer Britney Meraz went over the proposed budget with the board, which includes local, state and federal funding.

Hospital board holds short meeting

The Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors held a short meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at noon at the Seasons Assisted Living Center. The board members discussed several needed changes to construction projects for the hospital.

Tuesday storm drops moisture in county

A slow rolling thunderstorm added some more rain to thirsty rain gauges in Ochiltree County on Tuesday evening. Randy and Cami Skaggs, who live one mile southeast of Perryton, reported the most rainfall, with 1.50 inches of precipitation.

County COVID-19 cases up slightly

COVID-19 results from Ochiltree General Hospital have increased slightly since last week. According to Chief Nursing Officer Jyme Kinnard, RN, Ochiltree General Hospital completed 70 total COVID-19 tests in the last seven days, with 19 positive cases, up from 16 last week.

TxDOT work on Highway 83 continues this week

Work on a mill and fill project on US 83 in Ochiltree County moved in town this week, with night work taking place to minimize the impact on Perryton-area drivers. Work began Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, with the project continuing on Thursday, Aug. 11 and Friday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m.
