COVID-19 cases drop sharply in county

Ochiltree General Hospital’s COVID-19 numbers took a steep drop this week. According to Chief Nursing Officer Jyme Kinnard, RN, Ochiltree General Hospital completed 55 total COVID- 19 tests in the last seven days, with just five positive cases, down from 14 cases last week.

The Seasons Assisted Living Center held a carnival event for residents on Thursday afternoon. Residents got to play a number of different carnival games to win tickets and prizes, as well as enjoying popcorn, face-painting, a photo booth, and more.

The candidates for Homecoming Queen at Perryton High School have been announced. The new Homecoming Queen will be chosen by the football team and crowned during the Perryton Rangers game against Pampa on Friday, Sept. 23, at Ranger Field.

Accident results in serious injuries

An accident Wednesday afternoon on the loop road seriously injured an Oklahoma man. According to Assistant Chief of Police Nick Yara, on Sept. 14 at around 2:43 p.m., the Perryton Police Department received a 911 call about a one vehicle crash on Southeast Loop 143.

Texas drilling permits up again in August

The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 867 original drilling permits in August 2022 compared to 687 inAugust 2021. The August 2022 total includes 788 permits to drill new oil or gas wells, 12 to re-enter plugged wellbores and 60 for re-completions of existing wellbores.

Vehicle crimes investigated

Crimes involving several vehicles were arrested by police during the week. The Perryton Furniture van, parked at 206 S. Main was damaged. The suspects were trying to steal the vehicle’s catalytic converter, but were not successful. Damage was estimated at $500.
