PPW begins annual Project Christmas Card drive

The Panhandle Professional Women has begun its annual Project Christmas Card scholarship drive. Donation boxes have been placed at several locations around town, complete with envelopes, for local residents to contribute to the fund.

Hospital board approves purchases

The Ochiltree County Hospital District’s Board of Directors met for the regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at the conference center in Ochiltree General Hospital. Among other items on the agenda, the board members approved the purchase of two new bariatric beds for $29,000.

PHS welding teams travel to Lenorah

Perryton High School’s welding program sent two teams – a men’s team and a women’s team – to compete in Lenorah, near Midland. Both teams were awarded first place in their divisions, and Julia Estrada was named the top welder for the entire women’s division.

Jennie Junes have program on Jireh

A program on Jireh Outreach was given to the Jennie June Club at its meeting Nov. 9. Jason Vanosdol gave an informative program on Jireh, a weekly food distribution center.

Toys for Tots to hold Turkey Trot Toys for Tots will hold a Turkey Trot 5K run to raise funds to buy toys. The Turkey Trot is set for Saturday, Nov. 19, across from Ochiltree General Hospital. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with the run to begin at 8 a.m. The cost to enter is $25 per person.

Vehicles damaged

Just a few offenses were investigated by police during the week. A 2010 GMC Yukon had the wiring on the engine damaged while parked at 400 N. Main. A vehicle was also egged while parked in the high school parking lot. A dog bite was also reported on North Main.

O negative blood donors needed due to supply chain issues

Coffee Memorial Blood Center is losing hundreds of O negative blood units a month due to recent blood bag shortages. O negative is the only universal blood type, which means it can be transfused in an emergency to any blood recipients, regardless of their blood types.
