IRS Free File available through Oct. 17 but, taxpayers shouldn’t wait to fi le 2021 returns

Taxpayers who have not yet filed their 2021 tax return, should electronically file a complete and accurate return when they are ready, rather than wait until the last minute.

Power drill reported stolen

A theft was the main crime reported during a rather quiet week. A DeWalt brushless power drill was stolen from 814 1/2 S. Fordham. It was valued at $150. Also during the week, a lost or stolen license plate was reported at 2 S. Amherst.

Texas Comptroller returns record amount in unclaimed property

The Texas Comptroller’s office approved and paid out a record $309 million in unclaimed property during the past fiscal year, Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced today. This is the third time the Comptroller’s office has returned $300 million or more in unclaimed property in a fiscal year.
