Vehicles egged

It was another quiet week for crime, as few offenses were reported to police. Several vehicles in the area of 800 SW Ninth were egged over the weekend. There are suspects in the case. A shoplifter was also reported at Toot ‘n’ Totum.

4-H members compete at Tri-State Fair

Members of Ochiltree County 4-H competed in the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer and Market Steer shows at the annual Tri-State Fair in Amarillo last week. In the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show, Tana Williams won first place in Class 5 and then breed champion for her Braunvieh Percentage.

Kevin Cummings named Kiwanis Workhorse of Year

Kevin Cummings was named the Kiwanis Club Workhorse of the Year for 2022. He received the honor at the club’s annual installation banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 27. The Workhorse award was presented by Chase Allison.

The Perryton Kiwanis Club named Kevin Cummings as their Workhorse of the Year on Tuesday evening. Cummings has spent years promoting youth sports in Perryton, including a five-year drive to bring competitive soccer to Perryton Independent School District.

Auditor announces retirement at commissioners meeting

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. County auditor Jim Dear and assistant county auditor Joyce Meyer announced at the meeting that they would retire at the end of the year. Dear has been the auditor for the county for 15 years.

Rangers to take on state ranked Stratford Friday

The Rangers will host a formidable opponent on Friday, when the Stratford Elks come to town. Game time is 7 p.m. The Elks are currently ranked no. 7 in the state by Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football in District 1-2A, DI, moving up from DII.

Reception set for Chief Smith A retirement reception for Police Chief Mike Smith will be held Friday, Sept. 30, from 3-5 p.m. at City Hall. Smith has served as chief for 3 1/2 years, and has been with the Perryton Police Department for 32 years.
