Friends, family, and city staff gathered on Wednesday afternoon for a retirement reception for Don Jennings. Jennings has been the finance director for the City of Perryton for 30 years.

Martinez is charged with capital murder

A man arrested for arson after a suspicious house fire in July that resulted in the death of a child has now been charged with capital murder. On Sept. 30, the Perryton Police Department served a warrant on Humberto Martinez, 39, for capital murder of a person under 10 years of age.

Jennie June Club sets annual Book Fair at library

The Jennie June Club of Perryton are holding their fall Book Fair for 2022 at Perry Memorial Library during the month of October. Patronscanbuyusedbooks and videos at a bargain price, one dollar for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for videos during the month.

Rangers to open district on road

The Rangers will begin district action this Friday night, when they travel to Levelland to take on the Lobos. Game time is 7 p.m. Seminole and West Plains will square off Friday night as well, while Borger will be open.

PARSPA to meet Oct. 3 The Perryton Area Retired School Personnel Association (PARSPA) will meet Monday October 3, 2022 at the Senior Citizen Center . The meeting will start at 12 noon but members are encouraged to come forlunch at 11:30 a.m. It is also time to join for the 2022-23 year.

Texas life expectancies dip during COVID-19

A new CDC report indicates Texas had one of the largest dips in life expectancy, the San Antonio Express-News reported. Unsurprisingly, with more than 1 million COVID-related deaths to date, every state in the U.S. saw a decline in life expectancy in 2020, when the pandemic began.
