City council approves new training facility renovations

The Perryton City Council approved the renovation estimate for the new training facility in the old Midwest Inspection building, and moved forward to have a structure deemed unsafe demolished at its meeting Tuesday.

Ochiltree County 4-H’s Clover Club — for kids in kindergarten through second grade — held their Christmas party last week at the Ochiltree County Expo Center. In addition to games of musical chairs, the kids also got a visit from the Grinch, who reluctantly handed out candy canes and holiday cheer.

American Legion to hold monthly meeting The American Legion Post 254 will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Jan. 2, at the Senior Citizen Center. A meal will be served at 6 p.m., and the meeting itself will begin at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome to attend. Snack Pak 4 Kids to meet Jan.

It’s time for our annual Christmas Lunch on Wednesday, Dec. 21. Our last hooray of 2022. I had to look up the word “hooray” to make sure I was spelling it correctly. I did…Hooray. But what caught my eye was the meaning: used as a shout of happy excitement, victory, or jubilation.

PISD teachers awarded grants

Four Perryton ISD teachers have been awarded grants to help pay for teacher certification costs. The grant stipends, ranging from $7,500-$9,000, were awarded by PISD superintendent James Mireles and assistant superintendent Dr. Maria Rocque.

Light week for crime

No offense reports were available this week. In county jail activity: Bernie Alexis Martinez, 22, was arrested on a fourth degree felony charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $7,500, and Martinez remained in county jail as of Wednesday morning.

OTEY SPEAKS AT LEADERSHIP PERRYTON SERIES

David Otey of Golden, CO was the latest speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. He spoke on “All I Really Need to Know I Learned from West Texas” at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus on Tuesday evening. The seminar was sponsored by First National Bank and North Plains Electric Cooperative.
