If I make it through the next couple of weeks with my head intact, I will totally amaze myself. We do this crazy schedule every year; this one is no different, except that I am a year older and a year more forgetful. I blame it all on the time change and The Perryton Herald scheduling changes.

Stolen vehicle, hit and run reported

A stolen vehicle and a hit and run accident were among the crimes investigated by police during the week. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup was reported stolen from the 600 block ofAmherst. It was later found at North Elm. A hit and run accident was reported in the 1200 block of South Amherst.

Rain, snow bring more moisture to county

Perryton and Ochiltree County received rain along with the first snowfall of the season on Friday. Snowfall totals varied widely throughout the county, from as little as one inch of snow up to seven inches of snow. The official precipitation total from KEYE Radio was .46 of an inch.

Rangers lose close 35-26 game with Seminole; to face Fort Stockton

The Rangers battled Seminole Friday night in a snowy contest, and came up just short, 35-26, giving the Indians the district championship outright. Also on Friday, West Plains drilled Borger, 55-7, to become the second seed in the bi-district playoffs, and Perryton will be the number three seed.

Satellite Arts & Crafts Festival is set for Nov. 19-20

The Perryton Satellite Center’s Arts & Crafts Festival will be held on Nov. 19-20, at the Expo Center. It is the 52nd year for the event. The hours for the show will be Saturday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 20, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Kids in Perryton have been gathering every week at Perry Memorial Library to enjoy Story Time, which takes place every Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. The program, for kids from 2-5 years old, is free, but library staff request you call ahead and register so they know how many crafts they’ll need to make.

Perryton musicians have begun rehearsing for this year’s performance of Handel’s Messiah, led by director Keith Harris. Rehearsals at the Perryton High School choir room are set for Thursday, Nov. 10, Monday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 17, with the final performance on Sunday evening, Nov.

Republicans win statewide Nov. 8

Ochiltree County voters went to the polls Tuesday to help decide several state and district races. There were no local contested races, but 2,134 residents did cast ballots, 41.5% of the total registered voters.

Mark Given of Roanoke Rapids, NC is set as the next speaker in the Leadership Perryton series. His session, “Trust Based Success,” will be Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Frank Phillips College Allen Campus. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.

United Way drive tops 61%

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2023 fund drive picked up more donations the past week, raising $58,456 so far, which is 61% of its $94,300 goal. Three new 100% Companies were also added to the list: Frank Phillips College Allen Campus, Perryton Activity Center and Area Eye Center.
