Damage, theft reported

Costly damage and a theft were investigated recently by the sheriff’s office. North Plains Electric had a utility pole mounted capacitor shot in the area of County Road P and County Road 1. Damage was estimated at $6,795.

Ochiltree 4-H sets recruitment night Ochiltree County 4-H will hold a recruitment and enrollment night event on Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 6 p.m. in Leatherman Park. Attendees will enjoy a cookout, hot dogs, and ice cream, and will learn information about enrolling in 4-H for the coming year.

Chronic Wasting Disease prompts new TPWD rules

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department issued new rules limiting movement and testing restrictions for white-tailed deer in deer breeding facilities after receiving confirmation of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in nine deer breeding facilities in seven counties this year.

Randall County Ag Day, Crops Tour set Aug. 29

The 46th annual Randall County Ag Day and Crops Tour, hosted by theT exas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, is set for Aug. 29 at the Kuhlman Extension Center, 200 N. Brown Road, Canyon. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. and include a free lunch.

Weekend rainfall brings welcome break from heat

Brief but noisy rainstorms this weekend brought more moisture to the county’s rain gauges as well as dropping temperatures in the brutal summer heat wave. KEYE Radio’s official rainfall total was .73 of an inch.
