Rifle and Pistol Club sets monthly meeting The Perryton Rifle and Pistol Club will hold itsmonthly meeting on Thursday, June 1, at 7 p.m. at the indoor range south of the Expo Center. The club will be discussing new and ongoing projects.

State funds EMS student scholarships

The state is funding more than $9 million for 1,500 emergency medical services scholarships. The goal is to expand the state’s EMS workforce, especially in underserved and rural areas. The funding comes from legislation passed during the 2021 legislative session.

Commissioners approve cyber security training

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved the enrollment of county employees for cyber security training.

Jennie June Club installs new officers

The Jennie June Club installed new officers at a luncheon May 10 at the Senior Citizen Center. The officers were installed by Debby Schollenbarger, assisted by Kara Malaney.

POLICE REPORT

No offense reports were available for the week. In county jail activity: Jacob Coates, 42, was arrested on a warrant for a second degree felony charge of burglary of a habitation and a third degree felony charge of prohibited substance in a correctional facility.

County gets downpour, hail, tornado warnings

Perryton and Ochiltree County got a decent amount of rain late last week before getting completely drenched in a storm on Monday evening that brought very heavy rainfall, hailstones up to tennis ball-sized, and a tornado warning.

American Legion to hold Memorial Day program at cemetery

The Harry P. Stumpf American Legion Post 254 will host this year’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Ochiltree County Cemetery on Monday, May 29. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. The opening prayer will be offered by Rev. Doros Zachariades from Southside Baptist Church.
