Our nominating committee met on Wednesday to come up with a list of members to join our board of directors. This year we will be losing Doug Wilkens, Kerry Symons and Kay Allison. That is a hard pill to swallow because each of them has been such strong leaders for OCSCA.

Ochiltree General Hospital has opened a speech pathology program as part of the hospital’s physical therapy team. Logan Harmon, MS CCC-SLP, will offer a variety of speech therapy options for patients in Ochiltree County and surrounding counties.

When one enjoys a musical comedy as much as we did recently on a trip to our hometown of Brownwood, mass laughter was a tonic. There’d been an almost sold-out crowd of some 300 at the Lyric Theatre, and the experience made the 140mile drive commencing at 11 p.m. seems less daunting.

School board officially hires superintendent

The Perryton School Board held two special meetings recently. At the July 13 meeting, the board officially hired Greg Brown, the lone finalist, as the new superintendent for the Perryton ISD. His first day was July 17. The board also thanked James Mireles for his service as superintendent.
Coffee Memorial Blood Center in Amarillo held a blood drive on Tuesday afternoon at Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus. The drive had a goal of 19 donations, but only had a total of 12 successful donations. City’s sales tax payment up 3.5%

The City of Perryton received some good news last week, with the monthly sales tax payment increasing slightly in July. The city received $263,564, a 3.5% increase over last July. For the year, however, its payments to date of $1.7 million are down 7% from 2022.

OGH board approves contracts

The Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors met on Monday evening at the conference center in Ochiltree General Hospital. Among other items on the agenda, the board reviewed and passed contracts for the hospital’s certified nurse anesthetists.
A tractor pulling a tandem disc plow accidentally caused a power outage across much of Perryton on Tuesday morning after its extended wings became tangled in power lines on SW 24th Avenue near Western Equipment. The tractor pulled a number of electric lines down and snapped a power pole. Electric service was out for several hundred homes for less than two hours before Xcel Energy crews were able to restore power.

Library re-opened Perry Memorial Library has re-opened. Regular hours are again in effect. Parkinson’s support group to meet The Perryton Area Parkinson’s Disease Support Group will meet Friday July14, at noon at New Hope Fellowship, 2821 S. Ash in Perryton. Lunch will be provided.
