Rainstorm brings brief break from summer heat

Perryton and Ochiltree County have been hit by punishing high temperatures for the past few weeks, but short rainstorm late last week brought a brief break from extreme heat. Mary Dudley in the central part of Perryton reported 2.50 inches of rain.

City gives recovery update

Officials with the City of Perryton and Ochiltree County Emergency Management released a tornado recovery update last Friday. City of Perryton staff will host a question-and-answer aession on Thursday, July 27, 7 p.m. at Frank Phillips College, 314 S. Jefferson.

Commissioners approve new weather system for the airport

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved the purchase of new Automated Weather Observing System weather equipment for the Perryton Ochiltree County Airport.

Wheat harvest is about as bad as it could get this year

The 2022-23 wheat harvest in Ochiltree County left a lot to be desired, with yields significantly below average.
COOLING OFF It’s been brutally hot in Perryton and Ochiltree County, and that’s made the Perryton Municipal Water Park a very popular place to be, with the splash pad offering a great way for younger kids to get completely soaked. This is the last week the pool will be open for the season, with Sunday set as the pool’s last day ‘til next summer.

Wheatheart Celebration events to start in August

It’s already been a chaotic summer, but this year’s Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration is still set to begin in August. The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce has put the final touches on their schedule for this year’s festival. Currently scheduled for Saturday, Aug.

Breast cancer highly treatable

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer mainly occurs in middle-aged or older women. In fact, the median age at the time of a breast cancer diagnosis is 62.

Tax assessor-collector’s office open The Ochiltree County Tax Assessor-Collector’s Offi ce is now open. Lunch and Learn seminar set at OGH Ochiltree General Hospital will host a free Lunch and Learn seminar on Thursday, July 20, from noon to 1 p.m.
