Kile awarded Purple Heart for Vietnam service

A local veteran will have his discharge papers from the Vietnam War amended to more accurately reflect his medals and honors. Bobby Kile was inducted into the U.S. Army in September 1965 and began serving in Vietnam in April 1966. He was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment.

The second place prize for the Non-Profi t Float category went to the Wolf Creek Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

WWI naval shipwreck found in Neches River

TheT exas Historical Commissionhas confirmed a shipwreck found in the Neches River dates to World War I. The wooden-hulled vessel was one of nearly 40 built in Beaumont by the U.S. Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation and abandoned when the war ended.
