PROCLAMATION SIGNED FOR 4-H WEEK

Ochiltree County Judge Charles Kelly signed a proclamation declaring the week of Oct. 1-7 as National 4-H Week in the county, noting the program’s 116-year history of teaching kids knowledge, life skills, and the ability to become productive, contributing members of society.

Coats for Kids begins 23rd year

FirstBank Southwest is kicking off its 23rd year of sponsoring a community project geared toward children during the Christmas holidays. The bank traditionally sponsors its “Coats and Shoes for Kids” drive in November and early December. Coats and Shoes for Kids began in the fall of 2001.

The candidates for Homecoming Queen at Perryton High School have been announced. The new Homecoming Queen will be chosen by the football team and crowned during the Perryton Rangers game against Levelland on Friday, Oct. 6, at Ranger Field.

4-H members compete at Tri-State Fair

Eight members of Ochiltree County 4-H recently competed in the Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Show, the Market Steer Shows, Livestock Judging, and Archery at the 100th annual Tri-State Fair in Amarillo.

Story Hour to start Perry Memorial Library will begin Story Hour on Wednesday, Oct. 4. It will be held onWednesdays from 10-11 a.m. for children two to five years of age. An adult must accompany the child. The program will go through the month of March. There is no charge to attend.

Panhandle Wildlife Conference returns to Lubbock Oct. 20-21

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), the Department of Natural Resources Management at Texas Tech University and the Texas Wildlife Association are hosting the Panhandle Wildlife Conference Oct. 20-21 at Texas Tech University’s National Ranching Heritage Center in Lubbock.
