Students at Williams Intermediate were recognized in a poster contest to commemorate the 2024 Texas Conservation Awards Program with the theme “May the Forest Be with You Always.” The first place prize winner will advance to the Area 1 Division competition, covering the Panhandle and South Plains.

Rotary to host Cherry Pie Contest

The Perryton Rotary Club will host its annual Cherry Pie Contest and Sale on Saturday, Feb. 17. The event, which is the club’s largest fundraiser, is an open competition to find the best cherry pie bakers in town.

Crop conferences set in Dumas, Dalhart

Producers from the northwest Panhandle can hear the latest updates on agronomic and pest management issues at theT exas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Northwest Panhandle Crop Conference, Jan. 25 at Dumas and Feb. 6 at Dalhart. Each day’s programming will be from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Junior livestock show tops over $325,000 in sales

The Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale had another successful weekend. The sale totaled $328,960.05, which included $110,873 in add-on contributions. That was a drop from last year’s sale by more than $72,500. Showing the grand champion steer was Maddie Schickedanz.
