United Way drive reaches 94% of goal

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2024 fund drive has now reached 94% of its $94,300 goal, with $88,873 in donations received. In addition, three new 100% Companies were added: KXDJ, FirstBank Southwest and Covenant Title. That brings the total to 16.

Over 100 volunteers, including members of the Perryton Christian Church Alliance, Perryton High School athletes and coaches, and FCCLA, got together on Friday at the Ochiltree County Expo Center to bag and distribute food for Christmas.

Storms bring soaking rain, snow

Ochiltree County received two days of long, soaking rains late last week, quickly followed by about two inches of snowfall, though the snow quickly melted away in mild winter temperatures. KEYE’s official rainfall total for the period was 2.98 inches.

Ochiltree County 4-H Club’s annual fundraiser sold more than 283 items as fresh fruit and other delicious foods and treats were delivered last week. The fundraiser helps support kids in competitions and pays fees at district level events.

Area businesses, offices set Christmas hours

Christmas is only days away, and many businesses, organizations, and governmental offices are planning their days off for the holiday season. Perryton Independent School District and Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus are both closed for their holiday breaks.

Wreaths Across America ceremony Dec. 16 The Wolf Creek Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will hold this year’s annual Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. at Ochiltree County Cemetery, and at 1 p.m. at Heart Cemetery in Booker.

Santa Claus has once again chosen the Herald as the official area drop-off point for letters to him. Children are welcome to bring their letters to the Herald office, Fourth and Amherst and place them in our special Santa mail box.
