Wolf Creek DAR elects new officers

Barbara Johnson presented “Patriots in Petticoats” for the Wolf Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution at their January meeting at First Methodist Church. She shared the stories of a number of ladies involved in the American Revolution.

Ten Texas counties exceed tougher soot standards, says EPA

Tougher rules aimed at reducing particulate matter in the air went into effect last week, reducing the amount of what is commonly called soot permitted in the air from 12 to 9 micrograms per cubic meter annually. It is the first change in the limits since 2012.

This year’s Grand Champion Steer at the Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale on Jan. 19-20 was awarded to Maddie Schickedanz. The animal was purchased by Miles Mays Construction, Chris Smith Wealth Management, and John Floyd Earth Moving.

Commissioners approve HVAC replacement

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse. Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved the replacement of the courthouse’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system.

Cherry Pie Contest set for Saturday The Perryton Rotary Club will host the annual Cherry Pie Contest and Sale on Saturday, Feb. 17. Entries will be divided into four categories: standard cherry pies in Men’s, Women’s and Youth divisions and a special division for other cherry desserts.

Six students from Perryton High School’s Ranger Band have qualified for the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. The band members competed in the qualifying contest on Feb. 3 at West TexasA&M University in Canyon.

More candidates file as period comes to a close

Several more candidates have filed for office in the May 4 general election as the filing period for the regular election draws to a close. Candidates have until this Friday, Feb. 16, to file in the general election.
