County enjoys weekend rain

Rain showers late last week brought welcome precipitation to an increasingly dry Ochiltree County.Mary Dudley in the central part of Perryton reported 1.80 inches of rain.Steve Johnson, who lives 13 miles northwest of town, received 1.62 inches of rain.

County approves license plate readers

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning at the Ochiltree County Courthouse.Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved a resolution of the court authorizing the installation of license plate readers within the county.

The demolition of the Expressions building in downtown Perryton began last Friday. Expressions, a clothing store and gift boutique, sustained serious damage in June 2023’s tornado, and is one of the last downtown structures to be taken down.

City’s August sales tax payment notes 4% drop

The City of Perryton’s sales tax payment for August showed a slight drop, though area cities were a mixed bag for the month.The city received $282,587 for the month, which was 4% less than August 2023. For the year, its $2.03 million in payments are up just 0.12%.
