Eunice Maxine Fisher, age 98, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024. A graveside service of remembrance will be held in Shelton, Nebraska at a later date.
She was born in Republican City, Nebraska on October 22, 1925, to Lloyd William and Jessie Mae (Marshall) Grant. She began life on a farm near Alma, Nebraska, where she lived with her parents and two brothers.
In the Spring of 1943, Eunice graduated from Huntley High School at the age of 17. The next year, she enrolled in the Lincoln School of Commerce where she completed a secretarial course and then began working for The Nebraska Farmer, a local paper.
In the Fall of 1945, Eunice enrolled in college at Union College, in Lincoln Nebraska. After her freshman year at Union, she accepted a position to work as a secretary for the Seventh-Day Adventist Hawaiian headquarters.
In the Fall of 1949, Eunice returned to Union College to continue her college education. While there she met and fell in love with Everett LeRoy Fisher. They were married on August 26, 1951, at the Sunken Gardens in Lincoln. They both graduated from college on May 31, 1953, she with a major in Secretarial Science and minors in English, Religion, and Education.
In 1956, Eunice and Everett accepted an invitation to become Seventh-Day Adventist missionaries, arriving at Colegio Adventista de Chile on October 12, 1953. Eunice and her family served there for 12 years, Everett as the Farm Manager for the school, and Eunice as a teacher. The Fishers returned to the United States in the Fall of 1968. In January 1976, Everett passed away after a battle with Multiple Myeloma. Eunice was teaching at Platte Valley Academy at the time and continued. Until 1977 when she moved to Amarillo, Texas where she worked for the Texico Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists as a secretary.
In January of 1987, Eunice accepted a position as a translator for the Seventh-Day Adventist Division office in Brasilia, Brazil, where she lived and worked until July of 1990. In the years the followed, Eunice lived again in Amarillo, Texas until she retired. In 2007 she moved to Perryton, Texas, where she spent her remaining years.
Eunice is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Bill & Charlene Chapman of Perryton, Texas, Jan & Retta Michaelis of Loma Linda, California, and Charles & Dorane Brower of Gresham, Oregon. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. Eunice was known for her faith in God, and her love for family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
