Seniors, retirees not required to take distributions from retirement this year

The Internal Revenue Service reminds seniors and retirees that they are not required to take money out of their IRAs and workplace retirement plans this year.

Two 4-H’ers place in record book competition

Over 155 youth from 21 Panhandle counties submitted record books to be judged by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service agents and adult volunteers in Amarillo. Chloe Tanner took second place in senior photography and Canon Huddleston was first in intermediate science, technology and engineering.

Online canning classes are planned in August

TheT exas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a Preserving Your Harvest Online Canning Class Series in August. All classes will be held online from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and those interested shouldpre-register through Eventbrite. The fee is $15 for all three classes, with an additional $2.

Keep kids water safe

With temperatures hitting triple digits and more children anxious to be outside, swimming pools, lakes, beaches and water parks will be seeing more activity as water-related recreational opportunities again become more available.

Equipment reported stolen

Stolen equipment and a case of criminal mischief topped activity for the week. Doug Carter from Edge Services in Woodward, OK reported two pieces of equipment had been stolen from C&J Services, 800 SE Loop 143.

Fall sports sign up underway The Perryton Activity Center is signing up youth for volleyball, soccer and football. Youth volleyball games, for grades 3-6, will begin Sept. 8. Program fee is $10 for PAC members and non-members. All participants and surrounding towns will enter the Perryton draft.

Storms bring more rain to county

A pair of rainstorms blew through Perryton and Ochiltree County during the early morning hours of Monday and Tuesday this week, bringing more welcome moisture to the area. KEYE’s official rainfall total for the week was .68 of an inch of precipitation for the two dys.
