USDA announces deadline for WHIP+ disaster program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced Friday, Oct. 30, as the deadline to submit applications for the Wildfire and Hurricane Indemnity Program – Plus (WHIP+) for 2018 and 2019 losses. USDA did not originally specify a deadline when the program was announced.

No offense reports were available this week due to computer problems at the police department. In county jail activity: Stephany Fonseca, 26, was arrested on felony warrants for bond forfeiture on a tampering with/fabricating physical evidence charge and an assault on a public servant charge.

On Monday, Oct. 12, Ochiltree County 4-H presented its annual awards at the Expo Center. Ochiltree County Judge Charles Kelly presented the Gold Star Awards to Tylar Oquin and Emma Barnes. The Gold Star Award is the highest county award available to 4-H members.

Active COVID-19 cases continue to surge in county

Ochiltree County’s active COVID-19 cases continued their rapid rise this week. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, there have been an overall total of 203 Coronavirus cases, up from 169 on Friday afternoon and 144 a week ago.
