Ochiltree County marks fifth COVID-19 death

Ochiltree County has recorded its fifth death due to the COVID-19 virus. Ochiltree General Hospital said the death is of a county resident. The hospital said the death did not take place at OGH, but at another facility.

The Perryton School Board discussed the district’s mask policy, current COVID-19 cases in the district and improvements to the softball field at its meeting Tuesday evening. Superintendent James Mireles talked about the district’s mask requirement.

The Perryton Kiwanis Club named Chase Allison as its Workhorse of the Year on Tuesday evening.

Allison named Kiwanis Workhorse of the Year

Chase Allison was named the Kiwanis Club Workhorse of the Year for 2020. He received the honor at the club’s annual installation banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Workhorse award was presented by Hunter Hartsfield. Allison was born and raised in Perryton.

Hospital board approves audit engagement letter

The Ochiltree County Hospital District Board of Directors met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening at Ochiltree General Hospital. Among other items on the agenda, the hospital board approved the purchase of operating room management software for $44,000.

Library to reintroduce Story Time in October

Perry Memorial Library has announced plans to begin holding Story Time for children again beginning in early October. The weekly event, which has been on hold at the library since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, is scheduled to begin again on Wednesday, Oct.

Members of the Wolf Creek chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution visited Williams Intermediate Elementary School last week to commemorate Constitution Week by delivering nine copies of the United States Constitution for every fifth grade classroom.

HHSC to expand nursing home visitation

On Sept. 17, Governor Greg Abbot directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to expand visitation options for eligible nursing, assisted living, and intermediate care facilities, home and community-based service providers, and inpatient hospice, effective Thursday, Sept. 24.

Allred repeats as golf club champion

The Perryton Golf Club Championship tournament was held Sept. 12-13 at the city golf course. Tate Allred was again the club champion, carding 61- 72 for 133 in the tourney.
