Texas young lawyers launch website to honor women

The Texas Young Lawyers Association this week launched an online site intended to educate students about women in our nation’s legal history who have fought for equality and civil rights, and who have helped shape American culture.

Calvin Coolidge’s vice president, Charles G. Dawes, was a self-taught pianist and composer, and he’s the only vice president to be credited with a number-one pop hit. In 1912, his composition “Melody in A Major,” became a wellknown song for piano and violin.

Business burglarized

A business burglary and several damage reports topped recent criminal activity. Panhandle Implement, 710 N. Main, reported a burglary at the business. The suspect entered the building, pried open a file cabinet, and took around $1,270. There is a suspect in the case.

Five Rangerettes have been named to this year's All District 4-4A Basketball team. Making the All District team were senior Johanna Perez and senior Morgyn Vela. Earning honorable mention honors were junior Tanya Navarrete and senior Tori Rivera.

Active COVID-19 cases down again

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Ochiltree County has fallen again. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 stand at nine, down from 12 cases on Thursday afternoon.

Knapp officially appointed public works director

The Perryton City Council proceeded with construction of water well 7A, and officially appointed Brandan Knapp as director of public works for the City of Perryton. After a brief executive session, the council unanimously confirmed City Manager David Landis’ appointment of Knapp to the position.
THREE-PEAT CHAMPIONS The Ranger powerlifting team took the regional championship for the third year in a row, and is sending two lifters, junior Christian Laja and sophomore Daniel Alvidrez, and two alternates, to the statepowerlifting meet, set for March 27 in Abilene.The team also had several regional medalists in the regional competition In addition, Coach Casey Arruda was tapped as the Regional Coach of the Year for the third year in a row as well.

This year ’s regional powerlifting meet for the boys in Sundown served as another opportunity for the Rangers to show their dominance once again. The weights clanged loudly as some of the best powerlifters in the nation competed for the chance to advance.

Get ready to have your microwave clock blinking the wrong time for the next 8 months because you can’t find the user manual. Luckily, my car does it automatically now. Since I only had to change the clock on the old one twice a year, it usually took up to a good half hour to figure it out each time.
