READY, AIM...—The Perryton Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce’s annual Loaded Chamber sporting clays event brought in more than 80 shooting competitors from as far away as Lubbock. Among the shooters was Tim Smith of Amarillo, pictured drawing a bead as he prepares to knock down another target.

Mayer named new TxDOT area engineer

Zachary Mayer, P.E. has been named as the new area engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Pampa Area Office, effective Aug. 9, 2021. TxDOT’s Amarillo District has three area offices – Amarillo, Dumas, and Pampa.

AC unit reported stolen

Theft and damage topped activity for the week. Lynda Capps reported a burglary at 118 S. Drake. The suspect or suspects took an air conditioner unit from the residence. Viviana Gonzalez, 1521 S. Harvard, reported someone had damaged her door latch and frame. Damage was estimated at $100.

MARCHING AND MUSIC—The Pride of Perryton Ranger Band held a March-a-Thon on Saturday morning as they took a three-mile march in neighborhoods near the high school and junior high. The event helped raise funds for the band’s spring trip and to help offset the costs of this year’s marching show.

MRIs on crop roots open new doors

A team of scientists led by Texas A&M AgriLife is taking a page from the medical imaging world and using MRI to examine crop roots in a quest to develop crops with stronger and deeper root systems. The team from Texas A&M AgriLife Research, Harvard Medical School, ABQMR Inc.
