The U. S. Civil War conflict had at least thirty different names during the 1800s, including The War Against Northern Aggression, The War for States’ Rights, The War for Constitutional Liberty, The War for the Preservation of the Union, The Brothers’ War and Mr. Lincoln’s War.

Parade winners announced

The annual Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration parade was held Saturday morning on Main Street, where thousands of county residents turned out to enjoy the show. The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the best entries in the parade.

School board sets tax rates, hears soccer proposal

The Perryton School Board officially adopted its 2021-22 budget and tax rates, and heard a soccer proposal at its meeting Tuesday evening. The board adopted a $21 million balanced budget, which is down almost $1 million from the current tax year, due in large part to lower property valuations.

Rangers to open season at Dalhart

The Perryton Rangers will open their 99th football this season on the road, when they play the Dalhart Golden Wolves Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m. Once a district rival, Dalhart dropped out of District 2-4A last year, and is in District 2-3A, D1.

The Ochiltree County 4-H Club held a recruitment night on Tuesday to help new 4-H members find programs and projects they’d enjoy.

The Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration parade brought thousands of people out on Saturday morning to watch the spectacle. The winner in the Commercial Float category was Perryton Equity Exchange.

Active COVID-19 cases back up

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Ochiltree County has risen since last week. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Ochiltree County’s estimated active cases of COVID-19 have risen to 28, up from 20 last Thursday afternoon.

Child Find underway

The Perryton ISD is looking for children ages 3-21 years who may be slow in developing communication skills, social interactions, walking skills and or have major physical disabilities.
