Texas prepaid tuition program enrollment deadline approaches

Texas families can lock in today’s cost of undergraduate resident tuition and schoolwide required fees at Texas public colleges and universities by enrolling their children in the taxadvantaged Texas Tuition Promise Fund® before the close of the current general enrollment period on Feb. 28.

Perry Memorial Library will soon offer mobile hotspots to library patrons. Hotspots are small devices that provide Internet connections via wifi to computers and cellphones. The library received 20 of the hotspots from a grant and hopes to be able to check the first of them out to patrons by Feb.

Rush to speak at Chamber Banquet

The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet and silent auction this Thursday, Feb. 17, at the Ochiltree County Expo Center. The doors will open at 5 p.m. for patrons to bid on numerous silent auction items. Dinner will be at 6 p.m.

Two new COVID deaths reported

Two new fatalities from the COVID-19 virus has been reported this week in Ochiltree County, bringing the county’s total to 45deaths. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the newest fatalities occurred around the date of Feb. 3.

One more files as period closes

As the filing period drew to a close on Monday, another candidate has filed for school board. Jesse Trejo is seeking one of the two board positions up for election for a regular three year term. Incumbent Richard Beyea has filed for one of the three year terms, as has Sarah Tregellas.

The Ochiltree County Senior Citizens Association held their Valentines Steak Dinner fundraiser on Monday, Feb. 14, at the Senior Citizens Center. The highlight of the evening was a special game of Family Feud, featuring a quartet of couples who’ve been married to each other for decades.

Information needed on vandalized vehicles

Perryton-Ochiltree County Crime Stoppers needs information this week to solve a case of vehicle vandalism. Sometime on Sunday night, Jan. 23, three vehicles parked in the 1900 block of South Eton were vandalized.
