Commissioners hold short meeting Monday

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday, June 27, in the Ochiltree County Courthouse. The meeting was one of the commissioners’ shortest in months, with all of the meeting’s business getting wrapped up in just under seven minutes.

Perryton Lions Club members got together on Saturday morning to get fireworks unloaded and fuses installed in anticipation of their annual fireworks show coming up on Monday, the Fourth of July, at Wolf Creek Park. The annual fireworks display will begin just after dusk, about 9:30-9:45 p.m.

Council reviews proposed budget

The Perryton City Council met in regular session Tuesday evening with department heads at City Hall to review the proposed budget for the upcoming 2022-23 fiscal year. City Manager David Landis reviewed the proposed budget.

State’s COVID-19 numbers up slightly

The State of Texas’ COVID-19 numbers for Ochiltree County rose slightly this week. According to data from the Texas Department of State Health Services, the county has had 20 new cases of the virus in the last 14 days, an increase of 11% over the previous 14 days.

School board appoints member to serve out unexpired term

The Perryton School Board appointed a new member to serve the remainder of an unexpired term, and dealt with several staffing items at its meeting Tuesday evening. The board voted to appoint Bryce Hale to finish out the unexpired term of Tyler Merkel, who resigned earlier.

Frank Phillips College, Allen Campus, began their annual Kids College last week, with lots of activities for kids from ages 4-14. The “Secret Agent” class gave kids lots of opportunities to learn espionage skills, including breaking secret codes and creating special weapons.

Hair Was First

After six months at the off-Broadway New York Shakespeare Festival Theater, the musical “Hair” opened at the Biltmore Theater in New York in 1968. It was the first rock-musical to play on the Great White Way.

Tips still needed on house burglary

Perryton-Ochiltree County Crime Stoppers is still asking for information this week to solve a house burglary. On May 31, a burglary was reported in the 700 block of South Fordham.
