Wheatheart Celebration set to begin in August

This year’s Wheatheart of the Nation Celebration will start in just two weeks. The Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce has put the final touches on their schedule for this August’s festival. Currently scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 2 is a Free Movie Night at the Ellis Theater at 7 p.m.

Lifeguards at the Perryton Municipal Water Park were busy last week giving swimming lessons for kids in the area. For kids who are new to swimming, that means they are learning the correct and most efficient ways to propel themselves through the water.

PHS choir members compete at state

Perryton High School choir members competed in this year’s State Solo/ Ensemble Contest earlier this year. The competition was held in Pflugerville. Four students were awarded superior ratings, the highest available ratings. They were Manuel Granillo, Caleb Jones, Tiana Hill, and Tanya Navarrete.

Seaboard awards scholarships

Seaboard Foods awarded $1,000 scholarships to 40 students who live in the communities where they do business and 15 to children of their employees. The students are pursuing certificates and degrees from technical schools, colleges and universities next fall.
