PJH Choir students perform at contest

Choir students from Perryton Junior High School competed at Solo/Ensemble contest in Amarillo on Jan. 28, with a number of students earning superior ratings.

Jennie Junes have program on Perryton

The Jennie June Club met Feb. 8 in the upstairs office at Perryton Furniture. Owner Kerry Symons gave the program on the history of Perryton. He shared several interesting facts about the town, and showed pictures of Perryton when it was first established in 1919.

High winds cause multi-vehicle wreck

Ochiltree County was plagued by very high winds on Tuesday. The high winds, blowing dust, and low visibility caused an accident involving multiple vehicles south of Perryton.

Rotary Pie Contest winners named

The annual Rotary Pie Contest was held on Saturday, Feb. 11, with over 50 delicious pies and desserts entered into the competition. Rene’SchwalkofPerryton was named the grand prize winner and was awarded $100. In the Men’s Division, Doug Nagell took both first and second place with his pies.
Attendees of the Valentine’s Dinner at the Ochiltree County Senior Citizen Center on Tuesday were treated to a special murder-mystery puzzle. Diners were dropped into a mystery during Carnival season in 1755 Venice, courtesy of a host of masked performers offering clues, mysteries, and danger — and lots of good fun, too. About 80 people attended the fundraiser for the Senior Center.

City’s sales tax payment takes big 17% drop

The City of Perryton’s sales tax payment in February took a significant drop, over 17% for the month. The city received a payment of $288,553 for the period. For the year to date, the city is down almost 11% from 2022, with $551,853 in payments so far. Amarillo received a payment of $10.

School board race draws candidate

The Perryton School Board has drawn a candidate for the May 6 general election. Ramon “Noon” Vela has filed for re-election to one of the two three-year terms on the board.
