Gov. Greg Abbott last week signed two laws cracking down on illegal street racing. House Bills 1442 and 2899 enhance penalties for those involved in such activities and provide law enforcement and prosecutors additional tools to address those crimes.

HOOPSTERS AT THE PARK Local basketball players got together on Saturday, Aug. 5, for some friendly competition in a 3v3 basketball tournament at Whigham Park. The tournament benefitted the Ludi Pena Martin Foundation and attracted players and fans from all over the city.

FOOTBALL FRENZY Perryton High School football players and coaches started two-a-days this month, focusing on improving skills, learning plays, powering their way through drills, and boosting endurance. The Rangers will play their first game of the season on Friday, Aug.
The Panhandle Crisis Center’s Resale Store opened at a new temporary location at 21 SE 12th Street on August 1. The old store sustained heavy damage in the tornado on June 15. The store will be open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. No donations are being accepted at this time.
