United Way drive now at 44% of goal

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2024 fund drive continued to gain ground this week. As of Nov. 7, the drive has received $41,438 in donations, which is 44% of its $94,300 goal Two new 100% Companies were added, meaning every employee contributed to United Way.

DAR making early plans for Wreaths Across America

The Wolf Creek Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution are ready for this year’s annual Wreaths Across America ceremony. For the ninth year, Ochiltree County will participate in the nationwide Wreaths Across America ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m.

Toys for Tots preparing for another gifting season

Toys For Tots is back this holiday season to help children in Ochiltree, Hansford, and Lipscomb Counties, and they are asking for the community’s aid in helping local kids. Last year, the Toys for Tots program in Perryton provided Christmas gifts to 688 children in the community.

Most amendments passed by state voters

All but one of the 14 proposed state amendments were passed by Texas voters in the Nov. 7 election. The only proposition to fail was No. 13, which would have increased the mandatory retirement age for state judges from 75 to 79 and the minimum retirement age from 70 to 75.

City council addresses south side drainage issues

The Perryton City Council approved a couple of amendments to the current budget, including one to address drainage issues, at its meeting Tuesday evening. A$50,000 budget amendment will address drainage issues in the South Harvard area, between 28th and 30th Avenues.
The Perryton Lions Club secured a $20,000 grant from Lions Club International to help restore Murphy Park after damage from the tornado on June 15. The donation was presented last month to Perryton Mayor Kerry Symons by Lions District Governor Ryan Monroe. The Lions also received donations of $17,000 from the Texas Lions Foundation, including Lions Clubs from all over the Panhandle, to be used to help the community.
