FFA, 4-H members to show 111 animals in stock show

The 86th annual Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is slated for this weekend, Jan. 19-20. The Perryton High School FFA and the Ochiltree County 4H members will be showing 111 animals. The categories for this year’s show and sale include steers, heifers, sheep, meat goats, and swine.

Police chief resigns

Perryton Police Chief Nick Yara has resigned. Yara’s resignation will be effective on Monday, Feb. 5. He had been placed on administrative leave since the middle of December.

United Way drive reaches 121%

The Ochiltree United Way’s 2024 fund drive continues to garner donations, and has now raised $113,774 which is 121% of its $94,300 goal. One new 100% Company was added to the list, Interstate Bank, bringing the total to 17.

Students from 4-H and FFA, along with their parents, headed out to the Ochiltree County Expo Center on Tuesday evening to help get the exhibit hall ready for the 86th annual Ochiltree County Junior Livestock Show and Sale, which is slated for this weekend, Jan. 19-20. Students will be showing more than 100 animals, beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday.

On Jan. 3, 2024, the Ochiltree County Sheriff’s Department had outstanding warrants on the following people: John William McCaslin, no personal information was available. Last known address was Dickinson. There is one misdemeanor warrant for McCaslin for issuance of bad checks.

PHS Powerlifting

The PHS powerlifting teams competed in their first meet of the season last Friday in Dumas. The girls and boys teams both finished second as a team. “Each team had only a few varsity lifters from last year. They competed very well and hit many personal records,” Coach Casey Arruda said.
