Quilt guild elects new officers

The Friendship Quilt Guild announced new officers and the membership drive at its meeting Sept. 11 at Community Worship Center Outgoing president Melba Johnson called the meeting to order, and announced she was resigning from the quilt guild for health reasons after many years of membership.

Locals earn awards at Tri-State Fair

Local residents participated in the annual Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, with a number of them earning awards this year.Eleven members of Ochiltree County 4-H competed in the Market Barrow Show, Market Steer Shows, and Livestock Judging.Junior Livestock Judging featured 121 contestants and 42 teams.

The Rangers traveled to Hereford last Friday to take on the 3-0 Whitefaces. The Rangers held them at bay in the first and fourth quarters, but Hereford racked up the points in the other two periods to win 41-13.The loss drops Perryton’s record to 1-3, and the Whitefaces are still undefeated.

Kerry Symons is named Kiwanis Workhorse of the Year for 2024

Kerry Symons was named the Kiwanis Club Workhorse of the Year for 2024. He received the honor at the club’s annual installation banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 24.This is the second time Symons has received the Workhorse award. He was previously named Workhorse of the Year in 2007.

Commissioners approve several annual contracts

The Ochiltree County Commissioners’ Court met on Monday morning in the Ochiltree County Courthouse.Among other items on the agenda, the commissioners approved a number of annual contracts with local organizations and individuals.

Coats for Kids begins 24th year

FirstBank Southwest is kicking off its 24th year of sponsoring a community project geared toward helping children during the upcoming fall and winter seasons.This year, the bank will again sponsor its “Coats and Shoes for Kids” drive in September through October.
