Rangers game cut short by power outage

The Perryton Rangers football team’s season opener was stopped in its tracks by a power outage at Ranger Field Friday evening. The second half was a few minutes from starting, around 8:30 p.m., when a loud boom trembled the stands and the lights went out, just at Ranger Field.

Perryton High School football players and coaches began two-a-day workouts last week at Ranger Field. Perryton’s first games will hit later in August, with a scrimmage against Hereford on Aug. 21, ninth grade and junior varsity games in Dalhart on Aug.

The Perryton High School track teams hosted the Perryton Invitational track meet on Thursday. It was a shortened event due to the combination of both the junior and senior high school meets to one day in order to bypass the weather. Thirty-four teams competed in the busy one-day event.

The Ranger golf team carried their bags for a 36-hole event in Amarillo last weekend. The first 18 holes were played Friday at the Amarillo Country Club. The next 18 holes were at the Tascosa Country Club on Saturday. The Rangers faced tough competition but played very well against larger schools.
